Responsible Travel | Pack your suitcase sustainably

There are many different ways to travel consciously and responsibly. Think of travelling by train instead of by plane and buying your necessities from local businesses during your trip. Even packing your suitcase can be done sustainably. This way, you contribute to being environmentally conscious. In this blog, we will tell you more about how to pack your suitcase responsibly, without feeling like you're missing anything during your trip.

Minimalistic travelling

The first step is to look at the number of items you take with you. Do you really need five outfits for a city trip? Or if you're going on a longer trip, you can also bring a bit of laundry detergent instead of a lot of different clothes. By carefully planning your outfits, it’ll save a lot of weight. Not only by washing them somewhere or planning what you wear in advance, but also by combining different clothing items. For example, choose a top that you can match with a skirt, shorts, and jeans. This way, you're prepared for every weather condition.

Roll up your clothes and then put them in one of the organisers; this saves space and ensures that your clothes wrinkle less. In the end, this can save a few kilos in your suitcase, making it easier to carry and lift.

Reusable Bottles

Reusable bottles are now available at almost every drugstore. You can easily store your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and other liquid items in them. This ultimately saves a lot of plastic waste, as you avoid the travel-sized products. Put the items in the Natura toiletry bag, so you have them all stored in one place.

And instead of buying a water bottle at the airport, it's better to bring your own reusable water bottle. Just make sure it's empty before you get your belongings checked by security.

Use of Apps

We like to be prepared for a trip, so we don't have to stress about unnecessary problems on the road. By making sure you have all the apps and tickets downloaded, you don't have to print everything, and you save some paper.

Most airlines have an app where you can download your boarding pass. Many travel organisations such as Booking.com or AirBNB, also have an app where you can easily check your reservations. This way, you don't have to touch the printer and you can travel paperless. This is not only sustainable, but it also ensures that you don't lose or forget tickets or reservations

Organic Products

In addition to reusing your travel items, you can also bring products with you that are a more sustainable option. This starts with your suitcase. Choose a suitcase made of more sustainable material, like the Natura carry-on suitcase. Another way is to bring a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one.

Opt for a natural sunscreen or aftersun. Regular sunscreen often contains plastic and is harmful to coral reefs. So, taking a dip in the sea can have a negative effect on nature. If you decide to go for a natural sunscreen, make sure to read the ingredients. Be sure that Oxybenzone and Octinoxate aren't included in that list, those harm the coral the most. This also applies to other liquid products such as shampoo or body wash. By replacing these items with an organic option, you ensure that you travel a bit more responsible.
