YOUR OWN TRAVEL JOURNAL: WHERE TO BEGIN?

Pinterest is full of them; notebooks filled with plane tickets, holiday photos and other stuff. A travel journal is a collection of all your beautiful trips and memories. But where to begin? We’re happy to help. Do you have to be a professional artist to start a travel journal? Absolutely not. Read on!

Choose your journal… Firstly, you need to choose a journal that matches with how you want to use it. Do you want to write a lot about your trips and stick a museum ticket or photo next to it once in a while, then a lined notebook might be best for you. If you’re more fond of an organised chaos, you should go for a bullet journal. It’s perfect for a combination of drawings, sticking things in, and writing. By using the dots, you keep things from getting messy. No idea how you want to fill your travel journal yet? You can’t go wrong with a plane notebook. This way you can do anything you like and see how it turns out!

Now you’ve chosen your journal, you can start getting creative. Collect everything you saved up from your previous trips and get started! We’ve listed some ideas and tips for your travel journal for you:

Maps
You can put city and museum maps in your journal. It’s nice flip through your journal later on and recognise places on the map. Mark your favourite hotspots or use it as a background to stick pictures to. No matter how you use it, it will be a pretty page in your journal that reminds you of that trip!

Envelope
Grab an envelope (or buy it at your holiday destination) and stick it onto a page, using it to collect things you find on your trip. Eventually, you can stick them on other pages or leave them in the envelope. You can decorate this envelope-page however you like, plus you have more space for your other trips!

Polaroids
Nowadays, you can find instant polaroid cameras everywhere. We recommend getting yourself one and taking it with you on your next trip. Polaroids give that little extra touch and there’s space to write a caption! This way you can take pictures while on your trip and write something with them on that exact moment. Later on, you’ll look back on those pictures and bring back memories. A win-win, right

Textures
By using different textures in your journal, you’ll bring more life to your journal. You could use different kinds of paper, tape or maybe even a flower you found at your destination. You could even stick a tea tag to the page: feel free to try whatever you think looks cool. All these things will remind you of moments during that trip!

Long story short: a travel journal is so much more than some drawings and letters. You can fill it in however you like and nothing is wrong! So buy yourself one of those lovely notebooks and start journaling. There’s no doubt that you’ll flip through your journal once in a while to relive all your beautiful journeys!
