Winter roadtrips: These itineraries deserve a place on your (winter) bucketlist

The word ‘roadtrip’ probably makes you think of a VW van driving through a wide landscape with the sun shining bright. Maybe even some palm trees? Ofcourse this image isn’t necessarily wrong, but don’t forget roadtrips are just as fun in the wintertime! Gather your friends and hit the road. We’ve listed three of the best roadtrips to make this winter for you.

Cosy England
If there’s one country where they understand what ‘cosy’ is, it’s England. During winter you’ll find smoking chimneys and burning candles everywhere. Also, tea and scones are on the tables everywhere. Wait, who are we kidding? British people drink tea all year round, which is even better! SUITSUIT selected this itinerary for you:

Canterbury – Oxford – Cambridge – London – Salisbury – Eastbourne – Dover

@musingsofemma

During this itinerary, you’ll find out a lot of what this country has to offer. From beautiful historic colleges in Oxford and Cambridge to the impressive southern coastline. Still a bit sceptical about this cold and rainy country? Just take a look at Emma’s Instagram (@musingsofemma). This former Oxford University student knows how to capture the country at its finest, which will make you change your mind for sure.

The cold (southern) North
Where do we start? Norway is big, but so beautiful! The country is perfect for a roadtrip during wintertime. We recommend driving there yourself, as we see this as part of the experience. From the German City Kiel, you can aboard a very luxe ferry that will take you to Oslo in about 20 hours. This is where you can finally really hit the road:

Oslo – Kristiansand – Stavanger – Bergen – Flåm – Geilo – Oslo

@sheepwithaview

A tip from us: on the first roadtrip-day from Oslo to Kristiansand you’ll come across a town called Arendal. This is the town the Disney movie Frozen was inspired on. It’s like walking through a fairytale! Definitely worth a visit. On the way from Flåm to Geilo you’ll find something remarkable too. You’ll drive through the world’s largest car tunnel of 24,5 (!) kilometers long. To make the drive through the tunnel more bearable, they created a daylight illusion at some parts. A very weird but special experience! From the famous fjords to the Norwegian cities: this roadtrip lets you meet this beautiful Scandinavian country in the best way possible.

However, the costs of this roadtrip are a little higher than the roadtrip through England for example. The distance between the stops are a lot longer, so for this itinerary you and your friends have to plan at least two weeks off. Still not entirely convinced about Norway? Please take a look at @sheepwithaview. An Instagram-account entirely focused on “Norway’s best and bravest explorers!”. A combination of chubby sheeps and beautiful views in Norway: travel fever guaranteed!

Bella Italia
Italy is always a good idea, even in winter! The weather is just a bit better than in the north of Europe and we can’t forget about the delicious food. There are few tourists this time of year, so even more reason to get yourself over there, if you’re asking us. SUITSUIT selected these beautiful places in Italy for you:

Bologna – Verona – Garda (Garda Lake) – Milan – Cannobio (Lago Maggiore)

@italy

All these places are in the northern part of Italy, so you could drive there if you like. The famous Italian lakes are probably not the first thing you think about a winter holiday, but they do still have a certain charm this time of year. Ofcourse all the cities on the itinerary are in full cosy-winter-vibe and maybe even covered in a layer of snow! Still in doubt? Take a look at this Instagram page: @italy. They capture Italy at its best, also in winter!

Roadtrippin’ is only fun in summer? We don’t think so. It’s a waste to be a couch potato this winter, when the world is covered in snow or the sun shines on the cold and cosy cities. Pick your favorite from this list & grab your dusty suitcase from the attick! We are looking forward to your wintery holiday pics ;)
