Luxury and sustainability (a match made in heaven): these 5 hotels are a must-stay

Nowadays it’s getting more and more common to not only check the quality of the hotel, but also the way they incorporate sustainability. Eco-friendly trips are on the rise, but that doesn’t necessarily mean less luxury (like many people think). Luxury and sustainability are a match made in heaven, and fortunately this is increasingly reflected in hotels. We’ve selected 5 beautiful hotels that find the satisfaction of their guests just as important as nature. What else do you want?

QO Hotel Amsterdam
This hotel is located in a district called ‘Amstelkwartier’ in Amsterdam and is probably the perfect example of luxury combined with sustainability. Every innovative aspect of this hotel is designed to have a positive impact on the world, but also to make the experience for the guests as pleasant as possible. For example, there are little to no waste flows in the hotel, because this waste serves as raw material for new processes. They also have a greenhouse on the roof. In addition, the hotel looks brand new, but in reality a third of the concrete used to build the hotel comes from the old Shell building in Amsterdam. Besides that, the carpet is made from 100% recycled yarn from old fishing nets. In short, this hotel screams sustainability!Laax Rocksresort
This beautiful Swiss resort is surrounded by mountains and its mission is to save these mountains in everything they do. For example, all of the resort's buildings are built with local materials and are heated with biomass. In addition, they try to limit energy consumption as much as possible, but the electricity that is still needed comes from hydropower. The chair lifts to the slopes run on solar energy. Sustainability also plays a major role within the resort: the staff wears fair trade uniforms and the kitchen prepares dishes according to the season. The resort is located in the middle of nature and takes good care it.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge New York
This hotel in the heart of New York is inspired by the beauty of nature. Protecting the environment is their priority. From the mattresses to the sheets, everything is made from sustainable materials. Besides that, the room keys are made of sustainable wood and each room has a chalkboard instead of paper and pens. Behind the scenes, they use environmentally friendly cleaning supplies, the hotel is efficiently heated and cooled and rainwater is collected. The industrial-chic interior is also made of recycled materials. Long story short: a modern and stylish hotel that puts nature first.

One Aldwych London
This eco-friendly hotel is located in London’s Westminster, also known as the ‘theater district’. One Aldwych has already won several awards in the field of sustainability. This is no surprise, as the hotel focuses on recycling food and waste and use LED lighting, biodegradable packaging and water reduction systems. At the hotel's restaurant called ‘Indigo’, you'll find dairy and gluten-free British dishes made with seasonal ingredients from the area. In addition to the fact that the hotel is very sustainable, it also looks truly gorgeous. It has a luxurious look and is full of modern art. This combination in the heart of London makes the One Aldwych a must-stay!Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam
This 'sustainable green oasis' in Amsterdam was opened in 2018 and is located in an energy-neutral building. Solar panels heat up the shower water, the subtropical courtyard is sprayed with collected rainwater and the hotel is heated and cooled as careful as possible. Even the staff’s clothing has been considered: these items mainly consist of residual materials. The insulation, installations and innovations make Hotel Jakarta one of the first energy-neutral hotels in the Netherlands. In addition to being good for the environment, the hotel is also incredibly photogenic. The tropical interior makes you feel like you are in Jakarta! For the Dutchies: if this hotel isn’t a potential winner for a luxurious and sustainable staycation…
